The 15th of January 2018 saw the signing of the contract for the Atlas Womens Centre in Lisburn.
The money provided for the project was awarded by the Space & Place, a £15 million Big Lottery funded capital grants programme which seeks to connect people and communities together by making use of underused or difficult space.
The works comprises a new zinc clad extension to the upper floor of the current premises which will provide additional teaching space, stores and a sensory rooftop garden. A lift will be installed allowing full disabled access to the upper floors of the building. The existing crèche is being modified to include an outdoor play area.
We are in the third month of activity and the rear has been demolished to clear space for the outdoor play area. Apertures for new windows have been made formed on the courtyard facing elevation. The old roof has been removed and new timbers have been reinstated. The fragile chimney has been made good and will stand proud on the gable for further years to come.
